Review of the day

One of these days, I’m going to have a day that isn’t ‘one of those days’ – but unfortunately, that day wasn’t today…

Today was definitely another one of those days – 4 tips, no winners: 2 mentions, one winner.
That’s not how it’s supposed to work…

The first of the tips to run was Liberty One – and I can have few complaints over him.
He ran his race and simply wasn’t good enough.
It was a little disappointing, because I thought he was better than he showed today – but clearly he isn’t because there were no excuses…

Next up it was No Duffer.
If I was bemused as to why he was a 5/2 shot this morning – I was completely staggered that he had drifted to 11/4 at the off (and with a non runner as well).

Watching the race, he seemed to always be on the back foot – and I honestly didn’t think he was going get involved.
However, to the horses credit, he never gave in – and entering the home straight, he began to attack long time leader, Sixty Something.

He was just about take up the running at the fourth last, when disaster struck.
He over-jumped the fence – and that was that.
It was a bit of a sickener, as whilst you couldn’t be adamant that he would have won – the fact he touched 1.3 on Betfair as he mounted his challenge, probably tells an accurate story.
These things also happen, I guess…

Next it was Keep on Track.
He ran a strange race in so much as he went from cantering, to pulled up, in a matter of strides.
Maybe he didn’t get home (there was a little question mark over the trip) – though that said, he stopped so quickly – and quite a long way out – I did wonder if maybe he had bled…

Finally, it was Invicta Lake.
He was settled at the back of the field by Paddy Brennan – but in a relatively steadily run race, he just wasn’t able to quicken up sufficiently to mount a telling challenge.
The finish was fought out by market leaders, Big Easy and Ulzanas Raid.
Invicta Lake should have finished pretty close to Big Easy, based on last time out form, but he didn’t…

The victory of Starluck just compounded the days frustrations…
We were on him last time out, when he ran in an unsatisfactory race at Ascot.
I thought long and hard about tipping him today – but the combination of uncertainty over the ground – and pace in the race – caused me to swerve him.

The way things are going currently, it therefore came as little surprise, when he sluiced through the field and got up in the shadows of the post.
They really are fine lines, at times…

Even with Standing Ovation capsizing in the handicap chase, that meant the mentions had managed to record 5 consecutive days of profit, backing them all at SP (which I would never recommend – but non-the-less).

I guess that demonstrates I’m still reading things pretty well – just not selecting the right horses as tips.

Hopefully that will change soon…

Just a reminder that I’ll open the tipping window at 6:00 this evening, in case there is anything for tomorrow, that can be tipped this evening.

TVB.
